Winnebago and the WRV Club have raised almost $30000 to support the fine work of The Royal Flying Doctor Service in Australia.
At the RFDS Annual General Meeting and luncheon held at Parliament House in Sydney and attended by around 150 dignitaries and guests, Alana Towle, representing Winnebago Industries handed over a cheque for $29500, the result of various fundraising work by members of the WRVC, the amount raised then more than doubled by Winnebago Industries.
Motorhomers have an affinity with the RFDS as very often, motorhomes, given their self-contained nature, travel to regions out back, off the beaten track, to explore the picturesque and remote vistas unpopulated and natural. Being generally older and often retired, Motorhomers can be prone to health issues and certainly do appreciate greatly the existence of and the work performed by the Royal Flying Doctor Service and they have no trouble donating to a wonderful cause as this.
“Supporting the Royal Flying Doctor Service is a natural for us given they support the areas often travelled by motorhomes” said Max Mayo, Marketing Manager for Winnebago. “It was easy to adopt them as our chosen charity” he said.
The WRV Club members raise the money on the various motorhome adventure safaris that the club runs by “fining’ members for fun indiscretions and by auctioning off the club mascot, Kenny Koala each night on safari. Kenny is a a toy Koala but oh what stories he can tell. Members also sell raffle tickets at the major RV Shows around the country, offering prizes donated by different suppliers.
The RFDS began as the dream of the Rev John Flynn, a minister with the Presbyterian Church. He witnessed the daily struggle of pioneers living in remote areas where just two doctors provided the only medical care for an area of almost 2 million square kilometres. In 1928 the RFDS became a reality.
