Many people new to caravanning often ask the question – should I get an ensuite in my van or not?
These days most caravans come with ensuites however there are varying types of ensuites available.
- Large ensuites that have separate shower and toilet and even washing machines and wardrobes.
- Smaller ensuites that have the shower and toilet in one.
If you choose the shower and toilet all in one, chances are you are going to get your feet wet in the middle of the night if you choose to have your shower in the evening, as the shower won’t have dried out before going to bed. Many people that choose this option end up having their showers in the morning to eliminate the wet feet feeling in the middle of the night.
PROS:
- Own shower and toilet on board, they are ready to use whenever you please
- Cleanliness, you know it is only you that has used it before
- No running to the loo in the middle of the night, torch in hand, rugged up in winter
- Use at your own leisure, you don’t have to worry about when the amenities block might be free
- Convenience if it is raining, not having to get wet or put up an umbrella
- Convenience if out and about and can’t find a loo
- Great if you want to free camp
- Can use the shower to hang wet clothes to dry when not in use or other items you want to store out of the way
- Stepping out of your own shower in the warmth of your own van on a dry floor
- Not having to wear thongs when you shower
- Take your time and don’t feel like you have to hurry to let the next person in
- Not having to lug your ‘stuff’ to the amenities block
- Better privacy and security
CONS:
- You have to empty the loo and the grey water
- You would need to stay in a caravan park all the time
Having your own amenities on board and not having to line up for shower or the loo is a pleasure
